Christ.
Job loses everything, and despite how upset he is and how much he is struggling, he never gives up and never blames God. This relates to Christ in Concrete because Paul and his family lost Geremio, who provided income and food. Instead of Paul blaming God, he still prayed and went out to look for work. When he was working, his back and arms were hurting and he smashed his finger, but instead of crying or giving up he kept going. Despite the struggle, he had faith in God and himself that the best will come. Paul believes that God has sent people to bring him and his family food, therefore this is his reasoning not to be upset with God. This is similar to Job not being upset with God because he reasoned that God has given him everything therefore he can take it away. Both Job and Paul chose to keep their faith in God and remain optimistic.
ReplyDeleteBook of Job tells of Job's undying commitment to God and to never give up faith no matter what struggles or difficulties are in your way. This relates to Christ because in this story, Paul and he family are forced to overcome many hardships from the death of Geremio, to Luigi's accident to unable to feed their family and lastly, being turned away by the Church for food. The book of Job touches on many themes that Christ also speaks on, Such as Pain and suffering (both physical and mental), loyalty to God, questioning and doubting God, and man's status before God.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Job's main message is to never lose faith in God. God may bring you prosperity but can also bring you evil. How you handle each of the two determines how God will help you. If you accept the prosperity but shun others when they ask for help, God may take away things from you. When God took away from Job he never gave up faith and was rewarded for keeping his faith in God. Never lose faith in God and God will never lose faith in you.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Job is a book about how no matter what difficulty and hardships that god gives you that you should not give up all faith and your commitment to God. Christ in Concrete can for sure be related to the Book of Job. Here's Paul who pretty much goes through hell dealing with the death of his father and you still don't see him blaming God for this happening to him.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Job is about a man who never loses faith in the Lord even though he loses everything that had meaning to him. Everything was taken away from him but he never bashed God or gave up, he just kept on living and praying. The book of Job relates to what Annunziata and Paul had to go through. They lost the man who provided them with everything and had to struggle and keep on living like Job did until things worked itself out.
ReplyDeleteThe book of Job (being about the titular character Job who loses his worldly wealth because Satan claimed that he is only pious because of them) relates to Christ in Concrete as Paul and his mother Annunziata (and the rest of the family) are constantly put into situations that test their faith, starting with Geremio's death, Luigi's incident, Paul's work hardships, etc. The problems they have just keep piling on top of each other, with little hope seen.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Job discusses how one should never lose faith in God. Job himself has a pretty perfect life until he loses it all: instead of blaming God, he questions why bad things happen to good people. This can be related to Christ in Concrete since Paul not once blames God for the situation he and his family find themselves in.
ReplyDeleteIn the text Book of Job ,there is a man that we meet who allows the devil to attack him by Gods order. It is a example of how a person can loose everything but sill have faith in God. Job believes that God will always illustrate sovereignty and faithfulness during his time of true suffering. This was Gods test for Job to prove he believed fully in Him. This is like Christ in concrete because in many cases there is speech of the characters talking to God and thanking him but mostly asking for help. Althought the connection of not loosing faith can be shown by Paul and Annunziata going through hardships ,asking God for help and not receiving it. Paul never blames God for the reasons of not finding help.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Job has many ideas in it that I find truthful but also, uncanny. Job was a good person and did all the right things yet, God allows Satan to test his faith. Why? Why would that be even remotely necessary? That goes hand in hand with the question of why do good people suffer? Is that ultimately a test on God's end? If so, I don't see the beauty or rational behind that.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Christ goes, Geremio leaves behind a family of mourners. Not only was Geremio a great worker and a loving man to his family who died brutally, but he leaves behind a poor family struggling to find the money for food. While their faith in God isn't fleeting - they call for him multiple times in time of need - but it's also unresponsive. Their faith doesn't provide food for them nor does it change the views of those who are cruel to them. While I think faith in God is a beautiful thing, it can also be questionable in times of hardship and also when we witness good people suffering.
The classic why do good things happen to good people? Why does God test us if we believe in him. In Chapter 8 line 2 it asks if the almighty distorts justice. Just like how Paul wonders about God. How Murdin was able and the insurance company was not liable for his father's death. Yet when times are tough his mother has a strong undying faith in God and that God will always be there watching over them
ReplyDeleteThe book of Job is about a man's unwavering faith in God. Job goes through many trials and hardships that harden him. He sought advice from his friends and they all believed he must have done something wicked but Job feels that can't be right. God speaks to Job and his friends and reminds them of his power. God rewards Job and scolds Jobs friends for their judgements. I feel Christ in Concrete is based off of this story, or at least a large part is. Paul and his family suffer so much pain and loss but they keep their faith the whole time and never blamed God.
ReplyDeleteThe book of job is mainly about keeping your faith in god no matter what is happening in your life at the moment. Job is tested by faith. Annunziata had no way of providing for her family. Geremios family still kept their faith in God after everything they been threw.
ReplyDeleteBoth The book of Job and Christ in Concrete shows how despite what the characters go through, they still keep their faith and belief in god. In the Book of Job, Job was repeatedly tested, but still didn't lose what he stood for. In Christ of Concrete, we can see how even though Annunziata loses Geremio and has a tough time "surviving", her and Paul still turn to god and don't give up.
